Brow Lift

Boston Cosmetic Surgery Specialist - Dr. Moss

A browlift is performed to lift sagging brows. This procedure will restore a more youthful look to the area above the eyes. Often patients are unaware of the fact that what they perceive to be excess eyelid skin is actually sagging brows, particularly the lateral portion of the brow. Sometimes a patient can benefit from both a brow lift and an upper lid blepharoplasty. Dr. Moss would be able to help you decide at the consultation how each procedure would affect your appearance. If a patient did want both procedures, Dr. Moss would likely perform each of these procedures separately, as it is important to determine the final result of one before performing the other. A browlift can be performed with cosmetic surgery of the lower face, such as a mini-facelift.

During the browlift procedure, the forehead skin is released and repositioned to create an esthetically more pleasing appearance. The scars that are placed can either be above the hairline (used in patients with either low or normal hairline) or directly at the hairline (used in patients with high hairlines). Although the quality of scars is not under a cosmetic surgeon's control, they are placed for minimal visibility. Finally, the lift effect can either be concentrated at the lateral portion of the brow or across the entire length of the brow, depending on the patient's preference.

Usually a browlift is performed while you're sedated (not completely asleep). Although when done in combination with other procedures, it can also be done under general anesthesia (you're asleep). Even when general anesthesia is required, most patients go home the same day. The degree of discomfort is low and is well controlled with oral medications.

When you go home from surgery, you will have a dressing around the top of your head and forehead. Dr. Moss will take your dressing off at your first post-operative visit which is the very next day. At that point, all patients can resume normal shampooing (very gently) of their hair. Most sutures will dissolve on their own. Any remaining sutures will be removed at 11/2 weeks.

Patients can resume light exercise at two weeks and at six weeks will be able to resume all of their normal exercise programs. Depending on the extent of the surgery, patients would need to take between one and two weeks off from work. Insurance does not cover brow lift.
