Breast Reduction Surgery Specialist - Dr. Moss

There are two reasons that women have breast reduction surgery. One is for cosmetic reasons. This would be where a woman feels that her breasts look too large for the rest of her body. She may also feel that there is too much sag to her breasts, or that she doesn't like how she appears in clothing. She may also not like that there are certain styles of clothing that she just can't wear. In addition, while she may feel comfortable walking or sitting, she may find that the size of her breasts restrict the type of physical activities that she can participate in. Or she may find that purchasing suitable bras for sports are difficult.

The second reason for having a breast reduction surgery is for functional (medical) reasons. These patients tend to have very large breasts and be bothered by neck and back pain. These reductions are usually larger than those done for cosmetic purposes. Patients wishing to have a breast reduction for functional reasons may find that their insurance company will cover the costs. In order for any patient to obtain coverage for breast reduction surgery, she must meet her insurance company's criteria for this surgery. The usual criteria to be met is that a certain amount of tissue needs to be removed during the breast reduction surgery and the pathology report needs to be submitted to the insurance company as proof. It is not enough for a patient to say "I have back and neck pain." Generally, patients with a bra size of DD or larger will be covered by their health insurance company for breast reduction surgery. Most women with a D cup or smaller will not find that their insurance company will cover this surgery.

Dr. Moss performs breast reduction surgery only for cosmetic reasons. He is no longer a provider for any insurance company. Therefore, if you have any desire to have insurance cover your breast reduction surgery and you think that you qualify, Dr. Moss suggests that you call either your primary care physician or your health insurance company and have them suggest a plastic surgeon who accepts your insurance for breast reduction surgery. If you would like to have a breast reduction performed for cosmetic reasons, please call Dr. Moss for a consultation. If you have been denied coverage by your insurance company and wish to proceed on a self pay, cosmetic basis for your breast reduction, you may also call Dr. Moss' office to set up a consultation.

Dr. Moss offers attractive pricing for breast reduction surgery and also provides financing through Capital One. This means that even patients who were denied coverage through their insurance company, may find that they can afford to have the procedure performed.

When breast reduction surgery is performed, the breasts are also automatically lifted and the nipples are repositioned to a higher and more flattering location on her breasts. In addition, if the areola are large and unattractive, they are made smaller and more attractive. There are scars that will be present after breast reduction surgery. Generally, there is a vertical incision that runs from the nipple to the inframammary crease (where the breast meets the chest wall under the breast). There is also a scar that runs along much of the inframammary crease. In addition, there is also the scar that runs around the areola, often referred to as the keyhole incision. These scars will fade with time but never totally disappear. Most breast reduction patients are very accepting of the scars because they are so bothered by the size of their breasts.

This surgery is done in a hospital and is performed under general anesthesia (you're asleep). The length of the operation varies depending on breast size, but typically varies from 3½ to 4½ hours. Postoperatively, most patients do not complain of much pain. Many of the smaller cosmetic breast reduction surgery patients go home the same day of surgery, while the larger breast reduction surgery patients tend to stay overnight. Usually, depending on their type of job, most patients are able to get back to work 2 weeks after surgery. In Dr. Moss' experience, this surgery has a high level of patient satisfaction.
