Allergan Natrelle® Breast Implants Boston Specialist - Dr. Moss

Natrelle® Collection of Breast Implants
It's hard to miss the display of Natrelle® breast implants in the waiting room when, you arrive at the office of Dr. Moss. Many patients and their friends are drawn to this display. They enjoy the ability to examine actual samples of both saline filled and silicone gel filled breast implants, while they wait to consult with Dr. Moss.

The most popular area in Dr. Moss' waiting room is
the Natrelle Breast Implant display
The Natrelle® Collection of implants offer a variety of implant styles of saline filled and silicone gel filled breast implants. The Natrelle® Collection of breast implants are currently manufactured and distributed exclusively by Allergen Corporation, which also sells Botox® and Juvederm®, two of the most popular cosmetic products used by physicians. This brand of breast implants had previously been sold by Inamed Aesthetics Corporation and previous to that, McGhan Corporation. Improvements to the products have been made throughout the decades that they have been available. The Natrelle® Collection of breast implants is very popular and comprises approximately 50% of the breast implants sold in the United States.

Recently Dr. Moss has been named a "Natrelle® Preferred Doctor" by Allergan Corporation
Natrelle® Breast Implants are FDA Approved for Sale and Implantation in the United States
All of the Natrelle® breast implants that are currently available commercially in the United States have received approval from the FDA. The saline breast implants received approval from the FDA in May of 2000. The silicone gel filled breast implants received approval from the FDA in November 2006. Breast implants are often considered "the most studied devices in the history of the United States". Allergan Corporation has conducted studies on more than 50,000 women with silicone gel filled implants for nearly 10 years. The initial study that resulted in the FDA approval of what is currently the Natrelle® saline filled breast implants involved almost 1000 patients and ran for three years. Dr. Moss is very comfortable with the safety of both the silicone gel filled implants and the saline filled implants. Like many plastic surgeons, his wife and staff have had breast implantation surgery with either the saline or gel-filled breast implants.
Natrelle® Breast Implants - Saline Filled or Silicone Gel Filled - What choice is best for you?
Dr. Moss allows most patients to choose which type of breast implant (saline filled or silicone gel filled) that best fits their needs. Other than the fact that patients need to be 22 years of age to be implanted with silicone gel filled breast implants, almost all patients are candidates for either style of implant. Dr. Moss will explain the advantages of each type of implant and let the patient decide which one is best for her. He feels that saline filled implants and silicone gel filled implants are equally safe. The silicone gel filled implants cost approximately $1000 more than the saline filled breast implants and this can be an important consideration for some women.
In addition, the FDA is recommending that women who have silicone gel filled breast implants have an MRI at 3 years post-operatively and then every two years after that. This is because a rupture of the silicone elastomer shell is usually undetectable with silicone gel filled implants, and it is thought that the best course of action would be to replace the breast implant, if in fact a rupture has taken place. This revision surgery is usually successful and uneventful. The rupture rate is very low for the Natrelle® silicone gel filled implants and has been reported at 2.7% for patients having a primary augmentation (1st breast augmentation surgery) who have been implanted for 4 years.
The Natrelle® saline filled breast implants also have an excellent record. The deflation rate for the Natrelle® saline filled breast implants has been reported to be 2.07% at 7 years. Because a deflation with a saline filled breast implant is readily apparent and the body simply absorbs the saline that has leaked, no periodic MRI screening is necessary or recommended. While the silicone gel filled breast implants are a little more expensive and periodic screening is recommended, Dr. Moss finds many women are choosing the silicone gel filled breast implants because the implants have a much more natural feel.
Dr. Moss Implants the Smooth Textured Round Style of Natrelle® Breast Implants
Dr. Moss implants the smooth- round styles of both the saline filled and silicone gel filled breast implants from the Natrelle® Collection. These are the most popular style implants currently implanted in the United States. One of the main reasons for the popularity of round breast implants is that should there be any rotation of the implant in the breast cavity, it seldom has any impact on the result because of the symmetrically round shape.
Choosing your Natrelle® Implant Size and Profile - Your Breast Implant Sizing at Dr. Moss' office
Dr. Moss has a very extensive collection of Natrelle® breast implants which both Carla (Dr. Moss' wife) and Lisa use to assist patients in choosing their size and profile of Natrelle® breast implants. Dr. Moss will first examine the patient in order to determine what her maximum size choice can be. Safety dictates that an implant must fit comfortably within the cavity created during surgery, and that there is enough breast skin and tissue to cover the implant and allow the incision to be easily sutured closed. Dr. Moss allows a patient to choose as small a device as she wants and as large a device as she wants, up to the maximum allowable size, he has chosen for her.
Dr. Moss offers all three profiles (low, moderate, and high profiles) of Natrelle® implants to patients. The low profile implant has the lowest projection (distance) from the chest wall. The high profile implant has the highest projection (distance) from the chest wall. The moderate profile has a projection (distance) from the chest wall that is in between the projection of the low and high profile implants. Carla and Lisa will help the patient choose which profile implant best suits her body and the result she desires.
Because the size and projection of the implant also dictates the base width of the implant, patients with smaller chest walls (size 32 bra) will tend to choose the high profile or moderate profile. A patient with a larger chest wall (size 36-38 bra) will tend to choose the low profile or moderate profile in order to spread the implant adequately over the surface of the chest wall. Dr. Moss is also available during a patient's implant sizing to offer any advice or answer any questions concerning implant profile choice.
Dr. Moss' extensive collection of Natrelle® breast implant samples allows Carla and Lisa to provide patients an opportunity to examine and try the different sizes and profiles in sizing bras and t-shirts. This collection of breast implant samples/sizers include two of each of the popular sizes, so that a patient can try on a pair to more closely simulate what she might look like after surgery. Dr. Moss, Carla, and Lisa provide guidance to each patient during the breast implant sizing. Dr. Moss' staff allows each patient up to one hour for their initial breast implant sizing, so that she has time to experience, in a pleasant and unrushed manner, what she might look like after surgery. Every patient is also provided a second sizing at her pre-operative visit, where she will make her final selection.
Natrelle® Pre-Consultation Kit - Your Chance to Try a Few Implant Sizes at Home
Allergan Corporation has recently made available The Natrelle® Pre-Consultation kit, which allows a woman to try on 4 different size sample breast implants, in the privacy and comfort of her home. While this selection of implants is by no means as extensive as what Dr. Moss has in his office, it does provide a patient a stepping stone from researching online to setting up a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Moss. In addition to the 4 sample implants, there is a bra to facilitate the implant sizing, as well as an educational DVD and booklet. This kit is ideal for the patient who is trying to decide whether she wants to seriously investigate breast augmentation. The Natrelle® Pre-Consultation Kit is attractively priced at $39.95 plus $5.00 shipping. Patients can order this kit by calling 1-888-884-9150. This kit also includes $170 in rebates, one of which is a $50 rebate for Natrelle® Breast Implants.

Currently when the Natrelle® Silicone Gel-Filled implants are implanted they are covered under the ConfidencePlus® Premier Warranty. This provides for a lifetime replacement of the implant if it has ruptured (as well as a free replacement for the contra-lateral side) and provides the patient with $3500 towards any costs incurred in the surgical replacement of the device, if the device has sustained a rupture within the first ten years after implantation.
