What Patients Look for in Plastic Surgery Websites

Carla Moss | Guest Blog | Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

We are posting some guest physician blogs that we feel are compatible with the way that Dr. Moss practices.  This blog from Dr. Paul M. Parker provides some valuable insight on how patients can educate themselves on the surgical procedures they are interested in.  Dr. Moss also supports the value of having patients view before and after pictures from a surgeon she/he is considering. This blog also points out the importance of a consultation with a plastic surgeon.

The Internet is an invaluable tool for plastic surgeons and, as New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul M. Parker, noted in a recent press release, “We have a responsibility to empower [our patients] with knowledge.” Like Dr. Parker, we strive to keep our Websites up-to-date as our techniques and procedures improve. photo_paramus_plastic_surgeon_parker_7815

Because research is right at their fingertips, we have to ensure that our Websites contain the right tools for effective patient education. The press release used Dr. Parker’s New Jersey breast augmentation pages as an example of solid educational tools. Dr. Parker acknowledges that one of the first things potential patients look for are the before and after pictures of real patients. As with his site, we recognize that these images are invaluable tools.

In the release, he says, “Patients who can see real results and identify with other patients approach their consultation with a higher level of understanding and comfort.”

In the release, Dr. Parker also addresses the importance of procedural information, emotional considerations, video testimonials, staff bios and facility photos. Along with this pertinent information, our patients also look for a site that looks professional and easy to navigate. But, they also get a feel for our personality. Like New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Parker, we recognize the importance of what is often a first impression. Dr. Parker acknowledges that “ while perusing a Website doesn’t take the place of a face to face meeting, it’s mood and arrangement offers insight in to the people behind the site and gives a good basis for choosing the right surgeon.”
