Boston Area Hospitals - Tobey Hospital
Dr. Moss frequently performs his cosmetic surgical procedures at three local community hospitals. These hospitals are conveniently located in three different areas south of Boston. Dr. Moss is also on staff at Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary in Boston, Massachusetts, where he is a Clinical Instructor at Harvard Medical School.

Front entrance of Tobey Hospital
The first hospital that we will visit in this series is Tobey Hospital, located in Wareham, Massachusetts. Wareham is situated in southeastern Massachusetts, just before Cape Cod. Tobey Hospital is a popular choice for many of Dr. Moss’ patients. It offers the convenience of a community hospital with many of the amenities of larger in-town facilities. Tobey Hospital is part of Southcoast Hospitals Group. It is the hospital that Dr. Moss’ wife chose for her breast augmentation surgeries and rhinoplasty surgery.
The drive to Tobey Hospital is pleasant no matter what direction you are coming from. Even during the summer, the traffic is reasonable on the weekdays. The Boston morning and evening commuter traffic has little impact on the Wareham area. And if you are coming from the Boston area you will be traveling in the opposite direction of traffic.
Tobey Hospital is located at 43 High Street. High Street is a lovely street with many older homes, some of which are currently Bed & Breakfast facilities. There is plenty of free parking directly across the street from the main entrance.

Surgical Registration Area
As you walk in the main entrance, you will take an immediate left into the new surgical suite of the hospital. You will find yourself at the registration area, where you will be welcomed by a friendly Tobey Hospital staff member who will register you for your procedure.

Above are staff members Judy Ford and Fran Bourne who will greet you at the registration desk when you first arrive. Tobey Hospital staff work to put surgical patients at ease from the moment they arrive.

There is always plenty of seating for patients and their families to wait in the registration area.
Pre-Operative Area
You will then be taken to the pre-operative area where you will change into a gown and will be placed in a holding cubicle. You will be greeted by your nurses as well as your anesthesiologist. In addition, this is where Dr. Moss will come by to speak with you about your surgery. Dr. Moss always speaks with his patients before they are taken into the operating room.

Surgical Suites (Operating Rooms)
In 2004 Tobey Hospital completed an extensive project that included the construction of a new wing containing a state-of-the-art surgical suite. Two of the operating rooms – called “I suites” are fully equipped with the latest technology. The rooms are set up with computerized cameras and miles of cables to accommodate today’s minimally invasive surgery. In addition, the new surgical suite incorporates a centralized anesthesia delivery system.

Bariatric Surgery at Tobey Hospital
One of the more popular surgeries performed at Tobey Hospital is laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery. The bariatric surgery program at Tobey is a comprehensive approach to helping patients not just lose weight but adopt wide-ranging lifestyle changes that lead them along the path to wellness. Tobey Hospital has been named a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASBS). There are only a handful of hospitals in Massachusetts who have received this recognition.
Many patients who have lost a large amount of weight after bariatric surgery find that they need plastic surgery to excise the large amounts of redundant skin. These patients often return to Tobey Hospital for their cosmetic procedures.

Dr. Moss with Dr. Ray Krueger Dr. Krueger enjoys an excellent reputation as a bariatric surgeon. He performs these surgeries at Tobey Hospital. To date (06/18/07) Dr. Kruger has performed 372 bariatric surgeries at Tobey Hospital. All have been successful.
Dr. Moss performs many of these cosmetic procedures that bariatric patients have after weight loss, including:
- Abdominoplasty, (Tummy Tuck)
- Belt Lipectomy
- Breast Augmentation
- Mastopexy, (Breast Lift))
- Breast Reduction
- Brachioplasty (Arm Lift))
- Thigh Lift
Cosmetic Procedures Performed at Tobey Hospital
Tobey Hospital is also a popular surgical facility for the most popular cosmetic procedures such as breast augmentation, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), liposuction, and rhinoplasty surgery. Breast augmentation, liposuction, and rhinoplasty surgery patients usually go home the same day of surgery, while abdominoplasty surgery patients will spend one night in the hospital. Dr. Moss also performs mini facelifts and blepharoplasty surgery (eyelid lifts) at Tobey Hospital. These patients are also discharged the same day as their surgery.
Tobey Hospital Department of Anesthesia
No discussion about the surgical suite at Tobey Hospital would be complete without mention of the Anesthesia Department. John Scheub M.D., Chief Anesthesiologist, and also past President of Tobey Hospital Medical Staff states, “Our current suites make things much more streamlined and efficient. The best technology is available right here.”

While patients are comfortably resting in the holding area, prior to surgery, a member of the Anesthesiology Department visits with the patient to discuss his/her planned sedation. Patients will find that the anesthesiologist will carefully explain what type of anesthesia is planned and the analgesic agents being used. The discussion is not rushed and patients are provided time to ask whatever questions they may have.

PostAnesthesia (Recovery) Area
Patients will wake up after surgery to find themselves in the post-anesthesia (recovery) area. This area was expanded during renovations to better accommodate the complex monitoring and other equipment that post-surgical patients often require. The nurse’s stations there allow clear views of all patient beds. Dr. Moss’ patients often rave about the excellent and attentive care they receive in this area. This is a time when a patient is awake and any fears of having surgery are usually greatly diminished. Dr. Moss always strives to make a patient as comfortable, and as free of pain as possible, when they wake up from surgery.
At this point the patient is offered light refreshments and rests until he/she is ready to be discharged or sent to a surgical floor to spend the night. Dr. Moss will visit with all patients before they are discharged. He will also call a family member if the patient so requests.

Discharge

You will have your ride pick you up at the same front entrance that you entered
Dr. Moss will always see patients on the day after their surgery – either in the office, for day surgery patients, or at the bedside of those who have had an overnight hospital stay. Dr. Moss also sees patients the day after hospital discharge; in his office in order to answer any questions that the patient might have about her/his care at home.
Patients constantly comment about the excellent care that Dr. Moss provides them. He feels that Tobey Hospital allows him to provide this same level of excellent care, while they are in a hospital setting for their surgery.
